Schedule juggling, consistent rehearsals, reliable show times, close proximity, and a go-with-the-flow baby are all the Bartons need to navigate their new life as a family of four. When you meet Chrysteena and Jim you are instantly entranced by their laid-back attitude on child-rearing but also their acute attention to their son’s every need. They are finding a way to keep their lives enriched with their love for improvisational comedy and being social people but also embark on this new role as a comedian parents.
When I reached out to Chrysteena to schedule some time to talk with them, she instantly responded with “maybe I should just share my Google calendar with you.” I quickly saw insight into how Chrysteena juggles a three month old infant while she enjoys the final weeks of her maternity leave, and keeps track of shows, rehearsals, and social gatherings. Chrysteena is, obviously, not alone in this schedule corral, Jim is right along beside her. They have found their balance and are handling these beginning months of parenthood with ease.
To understand the Bartons and why they bring their son with them to rehearsals, shows, and perhaps unlikely places to find a child, you have to understand the motto they like to live by, it’s better to ask for forgiveness than permission. They are not letting their son slow them down, in fact, Felix is along for the ride.
Walking into their home you will find a mid-century modern feel of décor and furniture along with both curated and homemade artwork, stacks of board games, and baby gear scattered everywhere. Chrysteena and Jim have made a home that defines that are interests and hobbies of the past along with their present, child-focused life. Their home matches their schedule, old hobbies with new babies.
